Familia de la cantante Nina Simone se opone a que Zoe Saldaña protagonice su vida
NUEVA YORK._ La aclamada actriz dominicana Zoe Saldaña, dice estar muy contenta de dar vida al personaje y la vida de la cantante de afroamericana Nina Simone, intérprete de los géneros jazz, blues, rhythm and blues y soul y conocida por el apodo publicitario de “High Priestess of Soul” (La Sacerdotisa del Soul), nació en 1933 y falleció en 2003.
La cantante, incluso se había titulado como doctora en música y humanidades y sobre su carrera, se mantiene una página que honra el legado que dejó en los escenarios.
La película está prevista a estrenarse en el canal BTE, una televisión dirigida específicamente a una audiencia afroamericana, que en un comunicado defendió la escogencia de Zoe para personificar el papel de la cantante.
Pero los productores de la producción, tuvieron que mandar a hacerle una prótesis para abultarle la nariz a Zoe y embarrarla de pintura negra, para acercarla lo más posible a la figura de Nina.
La desfiguración de la cara de Saldaña, ha generado agrias reacciones tanto entre los parientes inmediatos de la intérprete y seguidores póstumos de su carrera artística.
“Te diré lo que la libertad es para mí – No temer… me refiero a verdaderamente, no hay temor”, respondió Zoe a las críticas en su cuenta twitter el miércoles de esta semana.
La respuesta de los familiares, igualmente en twitter, fue la de que “respete la historia de Simone y saque su nombre de su boca”.
Añaden los críticos de Zoe que “esperamos que la gente empiece a entender que esto es doloroso y desgarrador, doloroso, repulsivo, un aplastamiento al alma. Pasará, pero no por ahora…”
La película, que coprotagoniza David Oyelowo, recrea el capítulo de la vida de Simone en su intento de hacer una reaparición en el negocio de la música.
Saldaña atrajo muchas críticas en 2012 posteriormente de las imágenes iniciales de su maquillaje en la superficie, cuando encarnó el personaje femenino central en la película “Avatar”, embarrada de verde.
Algunos están indignados, mientras que otros piensan que la película debería ser protagonizada por una actriz de piel oscura, es decir, afroamericana legítima para interpretar el papel de la controvertida cantante.

La actriz, incluso con raíces puertorriqueñas, dijo más tarde sus propias dudas acerca del papel que le encomendaron los productores de la película.
“No pensé que era perfecta para el papel, y sé que muchas de estas personas estarán de acuerdo, pero por otra parte, no creo que Elizabeth Taylor era la adecuada para interpretar a Cleopatra tampoco”, le declaró Zoe a la revista “InStyle” en junio de 2015. Simone Kelly, la hija de Nina Simone, expresó su oposición en un artículo publicado en el New York Times en 2013. “Mi mamá se planteó en un momento en que le dijeron que su nariz era demasiado amplia y que su piel era demasiado oscura”, dijo Kelly.

“Zoe Saldaña ofrece un tributo estupendo y fascinante de Nina Simone. Ella le entregó su corazón y alma a la función y muestra su extraordinario talento”, dijo Johnson.
“Lo más relevante, es que la creatividad o la calidad de los resultados nunca deben ser juzgados sobre la base del color, el origen étnico o la apariencia física”, dijo.
“El entretenimiento de calidad debe medirse por sólo por la fuerza de la creatividad y el compromiso de que un actor o una actriz, demuestren el rendimiento. Estamos orgullosos de hacer la película encabezada por Zoe Saldaña y David Oyelowo a partir del el 22 de abril de 2016″, concluye el comunicado del canal de televisión.
