Escuadrones antiterroristas del NYPD protegieron desfile dominicano de Nueva York

NUEVA YORK._ Docenas de policías del Escuadrón Antiterrorista, fuertemente armados, con perros amaestrados y otras herramientas de vigilancia, montaron un hermético cordón de seguridad para proteger al desfile dominicano de Nueva York (Dominican Day Parade), 2016, celebrado la tarde este domingo 14 de agosto en la Avenida de Las Américas (Sexta Avenida) en Manhattan y en el que participaron como cada año, millares de criollos para enarbolar la cultura, costumbres e historia de la dominicanidad.
Los policías, se apostaron en sitios estratégicos a lo largo de la ruta del desfile que comenzó en la calle 38 y concluyó en la 52, y estaban armados con pertrechos de guerra como metralletas, rifles de largo alcance, chalecos y cascos protectores.
La medida, tuvo como objetivo prevenir ataques como los realizados por los terroristas del Estado Islámico (ISIS) en actividades de masas de varios países, incluyendo la celebración del Día de la Toma de Bastilla en Niza (Francia).
El Estado Islámico ha estado difundiendo videos en su web en los que mantienen una persistente de atentados en Nueva York, especialmente en el área de Times Square, cercana a la zona en la que se desarrolla el desfile dominicano.
La parada, que comenzó a celebrarse en 1982 y ha estado plagada de conflictos internos y hasta en procesamientos judiciales, estuvo dedicada este año a las hermanas Mirabal, y como tema central el empoderamiento de la mujer dominicana.
El cantautor Juan Luis Guerra, fue designado el Gran Mariscal del desfile y subió a la carroza del Comité Organizador, diciendo que estaba feliz de poder enaltecer el orgullo dominicano.
“Es un privilegio estar aquí hoy y estoy muy feliz de compartir este orgullo de mantener nuestro país en alto y que Dios nos bendiga”, dijo el artista.
El contingente de dirigentes y activistas, que encabezaron el desfile, estuvo liderado por el alcalde Bill de Blasio, el senador estatal y congresista electo en Washington Adriano Espaillat y la presidenta de la parada Angela Fernández, entre otros.
Los miles de asistentes, desafiaron uno de los días más calurosos de este verano, para vitorear a sus celebridades favoritas, entre ellas Guerra.
Otras figuras reconocidas como Fernando Villalona y Ruby Pérez, también estuvieron encaramadas en carrozas de canales locales de televisión y empresas comerciales.
Al final del desfile, la policía no había reportado incidentes ni detenciones al final de la actividad.
